[5 September 2022] Leading micromobility company Beam will host a real-world training course in the Perth CBD this Saturday to teach visitors and locals e-scooter safety. 

The Beam Safe Academy incorporates a briefing guide for new riders, an interactive safety quiz and a free training course for riders to test out their e-scooter skills in a supportive environment. 

The Beam Safe Academy program has been developed in partnership with national safety experts Ascent Training Services, and forms part of Beam’s major safety education and enforcement program, aimed at educating riders on local riding rules and safe handling of e-scooters. 

Riders will learn safe operating and manoeuvring skills, such as how to turn, brake and signal to other riders and pedestrians. 

Beam’s Safety Coaches will also reinforce WA’s e-rideables legislation, following which riders can take a Beam Safety Quiz to test their knowledge.

“The Beam Safe Academy is Australia’s leading real-world e-scooter training program, which we run regularly in all cities we operate in - it’s something we’ve already brought to West Australians living in Bunbury, Esperance, Rockingham and Geraldton.

“Our survey data shows that 27% of inner-Perth residents have already ridden a shared e-scooter elsewhere, whether in regional WA where we have operations, or in the eastern states. Private e-scooter ownership is also increasing rapidly across the city. 

“This is why, for the first time, we’re bringing our Beam Safe Academy to metro Perth, despite not having shared micromobility operations in the CBD. 

“E-scooters aren’t toys - and it’s important that riders learn the law and understand their responsibilities when on the road.

“Even the safest scooter requires a safer rider, and whether riders are on one of our e-scooters, or a privately-owned one, we're committed to leading the industry in safety education and research.

“I encourage anyone who’s keen to embrace a new mode of transport to come along on Saturday and have a go!”

• Saturday 10 September, 10.00am - 3.00pm at Forrest Place, Perth.
• No bookings are required, walk-ups welcome.
• Riders must be aged 16 and up to ride an e-scooter.
