[28 July 2022] Global micromobility company Beam will commence shared e-scooter operations in Shale Hills this Saturday, bringing the brand new Saturn 5 e-scooter to the streets for the first time. 

Beam’s industry-leading e-scooters will be available for use from 8.30am - 4.30pm, 7 days a week, featuring affordable pay-as-you-go rates, with a $1 unlock fee and $0.45 per minute. Riders will be able to see the full riding area within the app. 

Beam is the largest shared-micromobility provider in New South Wales, with shared e-bikes in Sydney since October 2020 and e-bikes in Lake Macquarie since early July 2022. 

New South Wales is the first state to see the Beam Saturn 5 fleet, featuring tip-resistant dual kickstands, triple brakes, front suspension, a bluetooth-locked helmet, swappable batteries, voice commands and a new generation IOT featuring high-precision geofencing and increased GPS accuracy.

Fixed ‘virtual’ parking docks will be seen within the app, with riders directed to appropriate parking spots through in-app guidance. Riders will be unable to end their trip outside of a parking spot. 

Beam’s flagship rider education and enforcement program, the Beam Safe Academy, will also be in place, including:

• A pre-trip in-app safety briefing for every rider, featuring instructions on how to park and ride safely
• An in-app Beam Safety Quiz educating riders on the riding rules, with free credits offered to encourage rider education
• Half Beam mode for new riders, featuring reduced acceleration for novice riders’ early trips
• A three-strikes policy, with riders facing suspension for bad riding and parking offences. Those caught riding dangerously or breaking the law face permanent bans.
